Kosovo is a landlocked country in the Balkan Peninsula. It is officially the Republic of Kosovo after it declared its independence from Serbia in February 2008.

1. Pristina

The largest city and the capital of Kosovo where most Albanian are living. It is a town that is rich in history with almost 20 monuments, some mosques, and churches from Ottoman and Byzantine ages. Also, they are the center of commerce, entertainment, and healthcare of Kosovo. Gracanica Monastery from the 14th century and a UNESCO’s world heritage site, the majestic Kosovo Museum, the Ottoman Bath, clock tower, and public fountain are all part of Pristina. Local people love to enjoy festivals throughout the whole year in the city. Visiting local coffee shops, swimming pools, and shopping malls and tasting the local Peja beer while in the pubs are some activities that can be enjoyed in Pristina. 

2. National Park Bjeshket E Nemuna

Located in the west part of Kosovo that occupies an area of 624.88 square kilometers and was established in 2013 to create a new tourism site in the country. Cursed mountains are the meaning of Bjeshkët E Nemuna. It offers a green with various flowers and animals that live here, they also have a lovely river, attractive steam, and stunning hilly mountains with green plants and trees. Sightseeing, fish catching, hiking, and mountain climbing are some activities that can be done in Bjeshkët E Nemuna. This national park is the number one in the list of places to visit in Kosovo. 

3. Gazivoda Lake

The largest lake in Kosovo. It is formed because of the dams of the river Ibar. Gazivoda lake is shared by Kosovo and Serbia and has an area of almost 12 square kilometers where the 9 square kilometers is part of Kosovo. It has more than 100 meters deep and many marine animals and a variety of fishes are living here. An aesthetic view can be seen from the areas outside the lake. Tourists always visit the lake for a tour. 

4. Rugova

It is in the Northwest part of the city of Peja. It is mostly forest ranges that are in mountain surfaces. According to the International Ski Federation, winter is the best season to visit Rugova Mountains because it is the 4th best Skiing and snowboarding destination in the world. Rugova has 13 traditional villages and the entire Peja can be seen from Qafa-e-Qyqas (the Cuckoo’s Neck), a place in Rugova. Streams, lakes, glaciers, cliffs, and caves can also be seen here. Visiting the mountains of Rugova is an important part of the tourism of Kosovo. 

5. Gracanica Monastery

It was built in 1321 AD and is dedicated to the Holy Virgin Mary by the Serbian King Milutin. It is 5 kilometers from Pristina at the Gracanica village. It was constructed by following multiple tomb shapes and a Serbian structure. The design inside the monastery was decorated elegantly with an antique Byzantine culture. Because of the fire after a jubilee of the establishment, the original paintings and treasures were lost. Due to its architectural beauty and aesthetic paintings, it was listed in the heritage sites list in 2006. It attracts many tourists.

6. Pec

It can be called Peja in the local tongue. It has an area of 602 square meters and 95 villages. Patriarchal Monastery, one of the UNESCO’s world heritage list Ethnological Museum, Zenel Beg Tower, City Center, and Rugova canyon and mountains are the main attractions of Pec. Bistrica River flows beside the town and visiting Peja Bazar to have sightseeing in the city. Few establishments from the 14th century can be seen in Pec. Rock climbing, skiing, hiking, and paragliding are some enjoyable activities in Pec. 

7. Kosovo Museum

The most important museum of Kosovo and was created in 1949. It focuses on three particular subjects of ethnography, archaeology, and natural science, and they also started collecting paintings and relics for its exhibit. Artifacts that represent the struggles of the people of Kosovo in the liberation war were also gathered. Monuments and artifacts express mostly the ancient archaeology and some are examples of ethnography. It also has a refined structure of the building.

The second most populated city of Kosovo and is located at the bank of Bistrica and the base of the Sharr Mountains. Prizren is famous because of the traditional designed houses and old mosques. Kalaja Fortress is also one of the attractions in Kosovo. Some cathedrals and museums such as the Church of Our Lady of Levis, a UNESCO’s heritage sites list, Sinan Pasha Mosque, Mustafa Pasha Mosque, and the Bairakli Mosque can also be found in the city. Another reason for tourists visiting the city is because of the Dokufest film festival that is held in the Old Town of Prizren. They also offer tasty local cuisine and outdoor activities like hiking and skiing. 

9. Ethnological Museum

It is part of Peć and its entry fee is only a euro. The materials used on the show are all vintage stuff from their ancients. Also, some elements come from the Ottoman period and old Serbian civilization. 

10. Germia Park

The most arresting natural park in Pristina and is placed in the northeastern part of the capital of Kosovo. It has an area of 62 square kilometers and more than 60 species of animals and more than 600 floral species are residing here. The stunning pathway or also called the hiking trail of the park is surrounded by pine trees. It offers bicycle rent, rock-climbing wall, basketball ground, and playground along the trail. They also have an enormous swimming pool and restaurants that give great food and luxury cuisine. 

11. National Library

It was established in 1944 and has a shocking architecture because of small floating rectangles like a square-shaped tomb. After 70 years, it managed to collect more than a hundred thousand books. The total area is around 16, 500 square meters and has two reading chambers with 400 chairs.

12. Patriarchate of Pec

Mainly an ancient monastery from the 13th century in the order of Serbian Orthodox churches inside the city of Pec and is near the Rugova Mountains and Bistrica River. The Patriarchate of Peć controls the four different monasteries. There is also a collection of religious monuments inside. The great interests among tourists are the tall tower and the 750 years old tree that is inside the monastery. Patriarchate of Peć is also a part of UNESCO’s world heritage sites list. 

13. Mirusha Waterfalls

It is a sequence of moderate waterfalls that form in the nearby 13 lakes in Mirusha Park. It is splendid to watch and nice to hear the waterfalls. A variety of canyons and caves are also part of the park. The walls of the waterfalls are white and made of stone in nearby high cliffs. About 72 feet in altitude is the highest waterfall inside the park. It is located in a mountainous range and it gives an opportunity to have a beautiful view of the lakes.

14. Sinan Pasha Mosque

A lovely mosque found in the city of Prizren and has a 17th century traditional Ottoman or Turkish rule in Kosovo design. It was built by Ottoman rulers to spread the Islam religion. Arabic verses from their holy book, Al-Quran are the paintings inside. The walls are also designed with Arabic letters and sentences. Due to rain, the inner chamber was damaged and it was plastered with lead plates later on. It has an area of 196 square meters and is in a rectangular shape. 

15. Prizren Fortress

It was built around the 11th century and is also known as the Kalaja fortress. Byzantines are the ones who made the magnificent antique fort. The place is most likely a small city and is developed by the Byzantines while they used it as a center of governance. It went in the Ottoman hands after they rule and later on, it became a ruin of Kosovo’s independent war. It is now a great tourism site and one of the best places to visit in Kosovo.
